How to control the anxiety of eating?
I have to admit that it is not easy to get out of anxiety about food. I was the kind of person who sometimes could not control it. For example, in my office I used to keep chocolates in the drawer, when it was lunchtime I would eat one at the moment and in two minutes I was thinking of eating another one and then finishing the bag. This compulsive behavior was due to the nerves of passing an exam, nevertheless I began to accustom this bad habit.
What helped me a lot in controlling my anxiety was keeping busy. By being busy I was distracted from eating, especially if I had already eaten. It is great to find a hobby, something that distract you from thinking about food or being nervous about something.
These tips can help you control your eating anxiety:
- Adequate portions. When cooking, make small portions. This way you did not feel the duty to eat everything because it is there.
- Eat less than you are served. When you are in a restaurant, do not eat the whole serving. The portions are very large, not because it is the amount you should eat but because they have to justify the price. You should also stop eating when your body tells you to.
- Prepare a meal plan. When preparing a meal plan you will be ready when you are hungry, many times we do not find that to eat. In that case we end up eating a sandwich and then another sandwich, you spend the whole day eating sandwiches and not a strong and nutritious dish. This meal plan can help.
- Eliminate junk food. It is called junk food to all those foods that do not contribute much nutritional value, either because they are composed of salt, sugar, fat and chemicals (food additives). The components of junk food promote appetite and the need for liquids.
I hope these tips will help you as much as they helped me.
